THE WAY OUT

Have you ever seen a fly bouncing around a room even after you have opened the window. Have you ever watched the fly as it tries and tries to hit that window but somehow never manages to find its way out. You sit there and watch it bounce of walls and furniture. It might even slam against the glass just above the open part of the window and all you can think is "well don't kill yourself before you make it out"

After a while you just want to go over and paddle that fly right out the window but when you move closer the fly gets spooked and flies up to the ceiling. That's when you get a bit pissed that the fly doesn't recognize your altruistic streak and you start wondering if setting the fly free was really worth all the trouble in the first place. That might be when you start looking around for a newspaper and muttering something to yourself about how it had its chance and you can't spend your whole day trying to be all ghandian about one little fly.

Strangely I have found a method to deal with such situations and, against all logic, it works. Perhaps it has something to do with vibrations of some sort but this method not only works with flies it works with yellow jackets, bees, and other stinging insects. I have found that if you open the door or window and then move to the back of the room, placing the offending insect between yourself and the window. Then wave your hands ever so subtly toward the open window and talk to the insect gently telling it to leave - it does immediately. You can say something like: "Go ahead little fly, nobody wants to hurt you, there's an open window right there. Go on, get on out of here".

The thing is, they really do listen. I don't know how but time and again I have seen insects that seem almost delirious from bouncing off the walls for hours just make a big arc and fly right through the window as if it were the most natural thing in the world. These bugs don't just find the window, they get it on the first shot, dead center, no problem. It's just a strange thing that happens.

Perhaps when they sense our frantic potentially violent energy bearing down on them they freak out and just can't get their act together even when we are trying to help them. When they sense our relaxed confident energy they seem to build on it to the point where they use our own mental energy to get a larger sense of the layout of the man made structure that has caged them. Then, just like that, off they go.

I bring this up because I get the funny feeling that there are clues in this small observation about how to deal with people while searching for the political window which we must figure out how to get through in order to be free of the house of cards that has been built up around us. We have in fact reached a point where the window has been opened for us, (Kucinich did that) and enough good hearted people are telling us which way to fly in order to get out. The problem is that there is enough neurotic and/or egotistical energy bouncing around to keep us flustered and unable to choose the proper path.

So my advice is this; when helping others to see the way, remain calm and understanding of their plight. When trying yourself to see that open window yourself, realize that there are people out there trying to help you even if they sometimes seem scary. In our own way we are all just trying to get along. It is especially hard because we have forgotten what that fresh air of freedom smells like - both the best and worst of us.

All we have to do is tune into the mental energy that is pointing the way and then go for it. Once we catch the scent of that cool outdoor air it will all come rushing back.
